| February 19, 2005-- Today the MPA organized and implemented their 3rd Annual MPA Cleanup Day. Children and Adults alike were encouraged to participate in ridding Nguna & Pele of unwanted and unhealthy discarded rubbish. Each participant was encouraged to pick up batteries, plastics and empty tins found either in the village, the forest or the ocean. Once collected, the MPA staff weighed the garbage and allocated prizes based on the amounts collected. In all, the villagers of the MPA collected and properly discarded 215.5 kilos of rubbish. Congratulations! Special thank you to Dr. Glenn Almany of James Cook University for supplying the prizes for the MPA Cleanup Day. |
