MPA Management Leaps Forward

The MPA formed a Management Committee in March 2006 that meets monthly to make executive decisions regarding the governance of the organization. An Executive Committee consists of Mr. Kalowas Watt, Chair (Launamoa, Pele), Mr. George Tavakalo, Vice-Chair (Worearu, Pele), and Mr. Tasaruru "Tatu" Whitely, Secretary (Mere, Nguna).

In April 2006, Mr. Kalpat Tarip of Unakap Village (Nguna), recently retired from National Bank of Vanuatu after 24 years, was hired as the MPA Manager. Two part-time staff were also appointed: Mr. Charly Manua and Mr. Samson Kenneth, of Piliura and Worasiviu (Pele) respectively. Funding for these staff positions for one year is coming from a U.S. National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) grant.
